Download YouTube Videos – Right From YouTube

Posted by Paul Colligan on Monday, January 19, 2009

As you can see in the video embedded below, YouTube is beta testing video downloads right from YouTube.com.

Here’s the download YouTube Videos link directly if your RSS reader doesn’t do embeds. You can also see the video at Yahoo, MySpace, Metacafe, Google, DailyMotion, Blip.tv, Veoh, Crackle, Stupid Videos, Sclipo, Viddler, Howcast and 5min.

This is big – very big. If they turn this on for all videos, the Podcasting game changes again.

(and I think they’re going to)

Would love your thoughts on this one.

Now if they would only up their 10 minute lock to something more like 15 minutes.
I do think this is smart on their part though and will definately be a big boost in popularity if enabled

This is news indeed. I saw that President Obama had the download option. I am glad it has trickled down to us peeps! I can’t wait to see how this affect podcasting and the like. I look forward to being kept up to date!

Very interesting concept. Makes it easier to put a video into a website or a Blog. Obviously, a great way to get something to go viral. Thanks for the heads-up!

Paul, this might be a foolish question but why would you want to download videos? is this so you can use them in your own podcasts?

I just don’t get it, unless you are trying to transfer them to your ipod or iphone…

To me, by far the most exciting thing about this possibility is that it would allow the video channel owner to offer an iTunes feed with no extra work. Right now, it’s a gigantic pain to make your videos available both on YouTube and iTunes: You’ve got to upload your video to YouTube, and then upload it again to your server for iTunes.

If YouTube starts offering downloads, you need only link to your YouTube download in your blog entry and iTunes would grab that attachment. That would be incredibly sweet.
