Who Says Microsoft Isn’t Podcasting?

by Paul Colligan on March 28, 2007

Always funny, those guys from Redmond.

Nick Saalfeld from Wells Park, of whom I had the pleasure of getting to know at the Podcast Summit, pointed me to this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/events/series/forefront.aspx?tab=podcasts

Good: Microsoft has Podcasts – “You can stream or download these audio podcasts on your favorite podcast software or mobile device, and quickly and easily access content with RSS feeds.

Bad: Not quite sure what the second statement means and … the only RSS I can find on that page is the mention of RSS on that page.

Am I the only one who doesn’t see any RSS on this page of Podcasts?

  • Here is another great example of Microsoft not quite getting it right. I'll be waiting for them to release service pack 1 for their podcasting efforts and see if they get it right that time. But we may have to wait for service pack 2 and a few monthly updates.

I wonder if they can put software patches into an RSS feed? Wouldn't that be convenient? I can see it now, "Subscribe to our RSS feed and keep your PC updated with the latest security patches." I just hope they make it easier to find the feed. Oh well, nobody's perfect.
  • If you click on any of the titles (TechNet Webcast:....), it opens up a new page. There are bullet points for how you can watch, including:

    # Download this podcast (audio only): WMA | MP3 (right click and ‘save target as’ to download)
    # Subscribe to an RSS feed for the podcast series: WMA | MP3

Took a bit of looking... :)
  • Well there we go.

It's not a "we don't really know what Podcasting is" kinda thing - "it's a we don't really know where to put the RSS" kinda thing?

Why isn't it on the page called Podcasting?

  • They do have RSS feeds on this page:

    http://www.microsoft.com/events/podcasts/default.mspx
  • I really can't stand it when people use the word "podcast" for ANY recorded audio. If there is no RSS feed, there is no podcast. It's just an MP3 file.
  • Nope Paul - you're not the only one. There's no RSS feed published on that page that I can find either. I second the semi-confusing motion. =]
