Tinfoil Hat Moment on the iPhone Issue

So, it is all over the news that Cisco is suing Apple on the iPod naming issue.

I never saw Apple and Cisco coming together on this one because, well, they’re Apple and Cisco. This is why I suggested that Apple will call the thing iPod Phone. I was wrong there, but …

Now that Apple is Apple, Inc. not Apple Computer, Inc. – we got some more options for the phone.

Cisco and Apple are playing chicken here. They’re looking to see who will blink first. The not perfect reviews that iPhone is getting has given Cisco a little more backbone. This will go one for awhile.

It would be very easy for Apple to start changing their naming strategy to meet their new company name. We already have Apple TV. Apple Phone wouldn’t be that big of a jump.

You read it here first.

I think Apple will probably be able to use the name without issue because they’re not directly competing with Cisco in the same space. I cannot imagine their lawyers did not vet this before naming the device. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if they backed off the name, but it’s not really their style. I actually like the name Apple Phone better.

I don’t understand how negative reviews of the iPhone (how a product that hasn’t been released yet – even to reviewers – gets negative reviews is beyond me) have any impact on the strategy of Cisco. Are you serious? C’mon…

“Not perfect reviews”?! which internet have you been reading?! ;-)

I’ve NEVER seen a device more fawned over and lusted after. And gadgets are my specialty.

it won’t even be out for 6 months, anyway. I don’t count what we’ve seen as reviews.

really good points, though. I just had to bust your chops a little for the review comment. :-)

Josh, just jump over to Techmeme – everyone ain’t thrilled. I’m moderately interested.

Ryan, yes I am serious. iPhone hasn’t come out crystal clear clean in this so Cisco has a reason to fight harder to the mark. Yeah, they talked ahead of time but both decided to play chicken until after the announcement. Apple blinked on this one.
