1 Tivo for Sale at Ebay - The Year of Living Digitally Begins
Posted on 8:34 am by Paul ColliganFirst step, unplug and sell the Tivo. Done. We’ll miss the dear friend. I hope she goes to a good home.
In case you missed it, she’s on the auction block because in 2007, the Colligan family gets their new media, only from the Internet - and via legal channels at that. You can track it all at YearOfLivingDigitally.com. RSS
Second step, explain to the family why cutting off the cable on 1/1 means you can’t watch the Rose Parade and try to rest peacefully knowing that the Star Wars fans will put all the best from the event online. Thank goodness for my HeyWatch.com account.

I’ll be watching your digital year closely.
I’d love to dump my TV (well, cable I mean), but I’m worndering if between Tivo and Netflix I’m not already getting the affect I want. Timeshifted viewing and only the programs I want. I haven’t watched live TV in I don’t know how long. I have a laptop plugged into the TV too so I get to watch Ask A Ninja and other fun stuff on the old tube too…
Why are you doing this again? Does “living digitally” have to mean Internet only? I am getting “digital” cable you know.
Best of luck!
Kelly
PS - The wife said “ixnay” on the “igitialday earyay” - she’s got to have her cooking shows.

The name is more of an homage to a certain film than it is the reality of what I’m doing.
But I think you might have missed the purpose of the experiment
Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Akimbo - and others - are all claiming that we can watch TV from the Internet as “easily” as we can cable. We know in out guts that it ain’t that simple - but … how close are we? That’s the question.
And, by the way, digital cable just means it goes into a digital box. You wouldn’t be able to tape shows on your Tivo if it was true digital cable

Mike,
They’re into it too. I wouldn’t do it if they weren’t.
They can get most of the shows they watch and won’t be bombarded with the commericials. You buy a show and you don’t have to put up with the kind of nonsense.

Tivo To Do The Amazon Unbox Thing | Year Of Living Digitally (Pingback)
[…] I miss my Tivo. Nothing we’ve used this year is as easy as she was (note - Apple TV has yet to arrive). This combo would have been very nice. Obviously paying $12.95 for a box to only download what I can currently do with my Xbox 360 would be pointless, so no dramas. […]
