Gmail Woes and GTD

Posted by Paul Colligan on Saturday, December 9, 2006

O.k., so I tried to do something that Gmail isn’t supposed to do (my fault, not Google’s) and, well, I archived about 100 piece of email I was supposed to be responding to.

If I owe you an email, drop me another line would you please?

And if anyone knows how to “unarchive recently archived emails” in Gmail or anything like that, I would be eternally grateful.

Yup, 100 people are gonna be sitting around angry that I haven’t responded.

Lame.

P.s., And, yes, if my email inbox was empty as it should be, I wouldn’t be in this space. GTD baby.

    Hi Paul,

Your archived messages end up in “All Mail” you can search for the archived messages in that folder, but I don’t know if you can sort them by date. Anyway, if you find any of the messages you didn’t mean to archive in “All Mail” then simply check the box next to it and hit “Move to Inbox”. Good luck.

    This may be a better explanation…from Google…

What does it mean to archive mail?
To take advantage of Google Search, and reduce the time you spend organizing your inbox, archive your conversations. Archived messages and conversations are stored in All Mail, and are available when you search your account. They’ll also continue to be available under any labels you may have applied to the message.

    To archive messages:

    1. Select the message(s) you’d like to archive by checking the box(es) next to the sender’s name.
    2. Click Archive.

    Also of note :

    * You can also archive mail from Conversation View — just click Archive along the top of your message.
    * If you accidentally archive a message, click Undo in the yellow bar along the top of the page.
    * When someone responds to a message you’ve archived, the conversation containing that message will reappear in your inbox.
    * You can move archived mail back to your inbox by checking the box next to the sender’s name and clicking Move to Inbox.

Yeah, if I would have realized what I had done, the old undo button would have helped. Too late to the party for me on that one.
