Odeo Now Obvious

Evan Williams announced today that Odeo has been acquired by someone called “Obvious Corp.”

Since Evan helped form both companies, I’m not sure how “big” this news really is.  It looks like more of a “buy back” than anything else so they can work on work, not running a company.
What does “Obvious Corp” do?  From their Website:

Obvious plans to create a network of web-based services, each with a distinct purpose and brand, but sharing a set of principles and leveraging technology, attention, and good ideas where it makes sense.

Sounds good to me.  I’ve been saying since day 1 that “only Podcasting” will never be enough so a Podcasting company join with other media types (and services) makes plenty o sense.

He says it is a “new model” for running Web products.  That all sounds fine and dandy, but the power of Podcasting is in the fact that you don’t need to be on the Web to grab it.  Just a thought.

We’ll certainly be watching this one.

Side note, I do really like the idea of anything associated with Podcasting being branded as “obvious.”
