The Value of Time Shifted Content

Posted by Paul Colligan on Thursday, August 31, 2006

Here’s a fun project that mixes two of my favorite topics – Internet Marketing and Premium Time Shifted Content.

There is an Internet marketing teleseminar series called the Internet Master Series that is giving the teleseminar content away for free – live – but charging if you want the MP3s at a later date.

Why would anyone possibly pay for content that they can get for free? I don’t know, ask the video rental store about the people who rent those TV DVDs.

I think this is going to work very well for them.

I’m actually going to develop a Podcast Series for them – clips from directing people to either sign up for the event, or purchase the MP3s.

And yes, we’re also working on a Premium Podcasting plan for the series.

I promise, I’ll let you know how this one goes.

I’m one of those people that will gladly pay for time shifted content. Using your example of renting TV show DVDs, I can save myself 18 minutes from a typical one-hour show by viewing the DVD rather than the regular broadcast. Not having to sit through commercials is definitely worth a couple bucks to me. So I think there will indeed be a market for that teleseminar series that you mentioned.
